Here is the interview that I did with author Susan Griscom who is part of the “FangTastic’s Book Mixer Event! Her slots are Jan. 29th – 31st 11-12pm EASTERN! Thank you Susan for taking the time to do the interview with me and for being an apart of the event!
How long have you considered yourself an author?
Hmmm… I didn’t consider myself an author until I was published, which was back in 2011.
How many books do you currently have out and please list titles per each genre?
I have 6 full length novels out and one collection of short stories
Whisper Cape – Paranormal Romance
Reflections, Whisper Cape book 2 – Paranormal Romance
A Secret Fate, Whisper Cape book 3 – Paranormal Romance
Beautifully Wounded, The Beaumont Brothers, book 1- Contemporary Romance/New Adult
Beautifully Used, The Beaumont Brothers, book 2 – Contemporary Romance/New Adult
Allusive Aftershock – Young Adult/Romance
Brief Interludes – A collection of short stories
Of all of the books that you have written which was the hardest to write for you and why?
Beautifully Wounded was the hardest. I started it in 2008. I had a third of it written and stopped because I’d always thought that the subject matter wasn’t something anyone wanted to read about, until I started seeing fellow facebook friends talk about the domestic violence experiences. Then I decided it was time to write the story. Though it is fiction, there are parts that come from my own personal experience. I wasn’t abused in the way Lena was, my abuse experience was of the verbal sort, mostly. I decided to make Beautifully Wounded a romance, mostly because that’s what I write and I wanted Lena to have her happily ever after.
What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about being an author?
Staying in my PJs all day if I want to. Besides that, the feeling I get after finishing a book is such a thrill, a wonderful feeling of accomplishment to have something to leave in this world after I am gone, other than my children and grandkids. To know that after time, after generations have past, when there’s no one left in the world to remember me, I think it’s sort of comforting to know that my stories will always be here.
If you could give your youngerself a piece of advice when it comes to your author career what would it be and why?
I would have made my major in college English literature instead of Information Technology. I also would have started writing sooner.
What do you think is the one hardship that most authors face and what ways do you suggest they do to deal with it as best as possible?
Bad reviews are very difficult and accept. What I do when I get one of those is, I read some of the good ones, then I go to some of my favorite authors and look at their one and two star reviews and it helps me accept the fact that you can’t please everyone.
If you could have dinner with any author past or present and could only ask them one question who would it be and what would you ask them?
Oh my. Hmmm… I guess I would have to pick my idol, Nora Roberts, though I’d probably be too nervous to ask her anything. I would hope that I could get the courage to ask her how she stays so slim. LOL But I’d really want to ask her how the heck she keeps coming up with so many stories about Rourke and Eve and keeps them fresh after so many books using the same characters.
If you could have your dream home built anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Somewhere on a warm sunny beach. I love the sound of the surf. I love watching the surf. I love smelling the surf.
If you were to guess how your readers would describe you in three words what would they be?
Addicted to Romance
Are you currently working on any other projects that you would like to share with me?
Yes, I am working on a spin-off series from the Whisper Cape Trilogy. The first book, A Gypsy’s Kiss is Breena’s story. There are eight books in this series and each one will be a stand-alone. Each book will be the stories of the kids from Whisper Cape after they’ve grown up. They will be paranormal romance, of course, and they will all be hot with steamy love scenes. I’ve also started a third book in the Beaumont Brothers series.
Thank you for the wonderful interview, Melly. It was fun answering all your questions.
