Here is the interview that I did with author Skylar Wood who is part of the “FangTastic’s Book Mixer Event! Her slots are Jan. 29th – 31st 1-2pm EASTERN! Thank you Skylar for taking the time to do the interview with me and for being an apart of the event!
How long have you considered yourself an author?
Only for the past couple of years. I’ve always enjoyed writing but it wasn’t until recently I decided to see if I could get a book published. Fortunately for me someone was willing to take a chance on a very inexperienced writer. I am extremely grateful for that.
How many books do you currently have out and please list titles per each genre?
Only one – Jade and it is Lesbian erotica
Of all of the books that you have written which was the hardest to write for you and why?
Jade being the first book I wrote was incredibly hard. I had so much to learn about POV, no head hopping and character development. Basically the whole novel was a rewrite but I did feel a great sense of accomplishment at the end of it. I sure learned a lot!
What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about being an author?
It’s an escape from reality. Plus when I hear that people really enjoyed my book it makes me feel like I’m on top of the world. It is a really wonderful but humbling experience all at the same time.
If you could give your younger self a piece of advice when it comes to your author career what would it be and why?
Don’t give up and stick to a writing schedule. It’s easy to become discouraged. Writing is really hard work and there are no guarantees that come along with it. Still the personal satisfaction is hard to beat.
What do you think is the one hardship that most authors face and what ways do you suggest they do to deal with it as best as possible?
I think reviews can be hard on your self-esteem. Still I try not to take it personally and try to be open minded to glean what I can from all constructive criticism that comes my way.
If you could have dinner with any author past or present and could only ask them one question who would it be and what would you ask them?
Charlotte Bronte. I’d like to ask her the challenges she faced being a woman who was a writer at that time.
If you could have your dream home built anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Victoria, British Columbia with an ocean view. I have fabulous memories surrounding that city. It’s such a beautiful city with a great quality of life. And you can take the ferry or fly over to the mainland if you want to spend the weekend in the equally beautiful City of Vancouver.
If you were to guess how you readers would describe you in three words what would they be?
Neurotic but nice.
Are you currently working on any other projects that you would like to share with me?
A new novel called Sweet Surrender. This one is also a Lesbian novel but it’s romantic instead of erotic. It’s about a police officer named Constable Ronnie White who meets Brandi Maven when she pulls her over for a minor traffic violation. The air is thick with their mutual attraction to each other but each one thinks they’re reading the vibes wrong. Still they both can’t stop thinking about each other! And the story goes on from there. It’s a totally different style from Jade and has its own set of challenges for me to work through. I’ve been enjoying the experience.
