Author Interview – Erica Stevens/Brenda K. Davies

Here is the interview that I did with author Erica Stevens/Brenda K. Davies who is part of the “FangTastic’s Book Mixer Event! Her slots are Jan. 29th – 31st 3-4pm EASTERN! Thank you Erica for taking the time to do the interview with me and for being an apart of the event!

How long have you considered yourself an author?
I’m not sure I consider myself an author yet. I knew that being a writer was the only thing I ever wanted to do but even though I’ve been self publishing for two and a half years it still seems a little surreal to me.

How many books do you currently have out and please list titles per each genre?
I currently have twenty books out between Erica Stevens and Brenda K. Davies.

Under Erica Stevens I have my mature YA/NA paranormal romance, The Captive Series. Captured, Renegade, Refugee, Salvation, Redemption, and Broken. Broken is being released on March 30th and there will be more in this series. 🙂

In my YA paranormal romance I have the Kindred Series that is comprised of Kindred, Ashes, Kindled, Inferno, and Phoenix Rising. This series is complete.

In my YA science fiction/apocalyptic romance I have The Ravening Series which is Ravenous, Taken Over, and Reclamation. This series is complete.

In my adult apocalyptic horror genre I have The Survivor Chronicles. Book 1 The Upheaval, Book 2 The Divide, Book 3 The Forsaken, and the fourth and final book, The Risen, will be available in February/March.

Under Brenda K. Davies I have written NA/Adult paranormal romance and historical fiction.

My NA/Adult paranormal romance series is The Vampire Awakenings series. Awakened, Destined, and the newly released, Untamed, make up this series so far with more to come.

Under historical romance I have written A Stolen Heart and plan to release at least two more historical novels.

Of all of the books that you have written which was the hardest to write for you and why?
I have two that were really difficult for me, with number one being Broken. Atticus from Broken got into my head and wasn’t going to let me go until his story was told. Anyone that has read The Captive Series already knows how his story ends. It was an extremely difficult story for me to tell.

The second one was the final Survivor Chronicles. I lived with those characters every week for over two and a half years. Unlike other characters they were brought to life and revisited often as it was a serial story. Saying goodbye to them broke my heart but unfortunately it was time to let them go.

What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about being an author?
Hearing from the fans, becoming friends with my fans, and getting to do what I love every day.

If you could give your youngerself a piece of advice when it comes to your author career what would it be and why?
I wish I had listened to my husband and started self-publishing sooner but I also know that when I did start was the best time for me.

What do you think is the one hardship that most authors face and what ways do you suggest they do to deal with it as best as possible?
Negative comments. If it’s constructive criticism try to learn from it and better your writing. Try not to respond angrily to it though.

If you could have dinner with any author past or present and could only ask them one question who would it be and what would you ask them?
Stephen King. How do you sleep at night?

If you could have your dream home built anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
I always say it would be somewhere exotic but it would probably be where I live now. I want a farm with a couple of horses, where I could foster rescue animals, and be close to the ocean. It may be cold, but I do love it here, and my family is within driving distance.

If you were to guess how you readers would describe you in three words what would they be?
Oh boy um I hope they would say fun, nice, and a tease because I do like to torture them. 😉 But they may have three completely different words for me!

Are you currently working on any other projects that you would like to share with me?
I am currently working on a project that I had told myself I WOULD NOT start right now. Unfortunately I never listen to anyone, apparently not even me! You will be the first to know that I have started Julian’s story from the Kindred series. People have been asking for him, he’s been niggling at my brain, and now he just won’t let go. I don’t know yet if he will be getting his own series, just 1 book, or maybe even 2, but he’s definitely getting something. It’s also going to be a little more mature than the earlier books of The Kindred Series as Julian was no teenager.
