Is Game Misconduct a standalone book or part of a series?
It’s part of a trilogy.
Do you ever have to do large amounts of research for the books that you write?
There are always things that need research for any book. Since I write about a game that I love, I have a pretty good grasp of hockey, but there have been days when my nose is buried in dusty old NHL bylaw pages online.
If you could co-write a book with any author who would it be, what would you write about and why?
I would love to write a book with my daughter, who is a creative writing major. She is incredibly talented and has a dark side that I don’t possess. We could crank out one heck of a dark romance!
If you could give a single person thanks for doing something to help you along the way who would it be and what would you say to them?
It would be my Goober sister, Michele, although I thank her all the time. It was seeing her reach for and fulfill her dream of being a writer that inspired me to do the same. Not an easy task for us “Women of a certain age” but one that is doable if you work hard enough.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions that you think people have about authors in general?
That we live the life that we write about or that writing a book is easy.
Are you working on any other books that you would like to share with us?
I’m working on wrapping up the third Venom book. The Venom series is my M/F erotic hockey romance series and it features a women’s pro hockey team!
What is your favorite type of books to read and why?
Probably romance, but I read all different sorts of books from autobiographies to high fantasy to YA.
What is one thing that you like best about your book Game Misconduct?
I love how we get to see Victor beginning to grow. He is far from perfect, and is still an abrasive ass, but we’re really getting to watch him see how his behavior impacts the few people he loves.
Do any of your books have real life experience in them based on your own experiences?
Emotional experiences sure. I’ve never played hockey so that aspect of the books is one I have to fill in with imagination. But as for suffering heartbreak, finding love, laughing and crying and celebrating good times, sure, those are all in my books.
Have you ever had writers block and if so how did you deal with it?
I don’t generally but every so often I’ll get stuck. I find that leaving the book sit for a day or so helps, as does bouncing ideas off my sprinting group.
When it comes to doing events do you prefer live or virtual ones and why?
I enjoy them both! Each has a unique touch that makes it enjoyable for an author.
Can you share something totally random about yourself that your readers might be surprised by?
I love to color in coloring books. Yes, it’s true. Even at my age, if you hand me a box of crayons and a coloring book I’m happy for hours.
What advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Never listen to the naysayers who will tell you that you’re too old, young, fat, skinny, poor, rich, not college-educated enough to chase your dreams.
